The laboratory at Hinchingbrooke closed four years ago following cuts in the Forensic Science Service and now planning permission is being sought by developers Persimmon Homes. The scheme could see a development of up to 105 homes which will be a combination of one, two, three, four and five-bedroom houses, as well as a mix of flats and 42 affordable homes. On the district councils planning portal, Persimmon said: It is crucial that the site contributes to the house supply and need in Huntingdonshire as soon as possible therefore the house type mix and range is an important aspect to be fully incorporated into the design. The site lies to the south of Cromwell Park Academy and to the east of existing residential development, and therefore needs to represent a well designed expansion to the existing residential area. Along with plans for more housing, Persimmon has included provision for public open space and widespread landscaping, including paths and trees. Before the application is debated by the district council the company have been directed to work with the community and County Council Highways and Education regarding the proposal. The main access point is set to be off Christie Drive, which was previously used by the forensic laboratory, but will be repositioned more centrally with an internal loop arrangement to create a more attractive street scene.
