The application, lodged by JPT Design Consultants Ltd, on behalf of Paul Allgood, sets out a plan to convert the disused station into a pair of three-bedroom houses on the site, in Fen Lane. The police station was sold by the constabulary in July last year, following a review of the forces assets. The review was held in order to help find £19million in savings by 2020. The proposal is to redevelop the land to convert the existing building to residential and to build two three bed dwellings with associated car parking, landscaping and access arrangements, the planning application stated. The proposed rear gardens are modest and will cater for modern living requirements, full width patio doors and folding doors will take full advantage of the afternoon sun. It is hoped that the simple design will contribute to the character of the area whilst ensuring that any future development does not detract from the existing vernacular. Along with the houses there will also be cycle and bin storage for both properties, and plans will be incorporated for access arrangements. The plan was submitted to the district council following a pre-application process with the district council which agreed that the site would be suitable for refurbishment with the development of two further detached houses. The authority also noted that it would have considered a proposal to demolish the existing building to make way for four semi-detached houses.
