A fire broke out in a house in Hail Weston yesterday evening (Thursday).
Fire crews from St Neots and Huntingdon were called to a property on the High Street at about 10pm following reports that the house was on fire.
Firefighters arrived to find a fire on the ground floor of a two-storey terraced house. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and a jet and cleared the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan.
One male casualty required treatment for smoke inhalation at the scene and was left in the care of ambulance crews.
A fire service spokesman said: “The crews arrived to find a well-developed fire that was spreading rapidly from the ground floor to the first floor. Thanks to the hard work and fast action of the crews the fire was contained and didn’t spread to neighbouring properties.
“The occupant was alerted to the fire thanks to two working smoke alarms, so was able to escape the property quickly before the fire spread further. This shows the importance of having working smoke alarms on every floor of the property and testing them regularly.”
