HOUGHTON Mill is being repainted from top to bottom as National Trust contractors carry out conservation work on the building.
A mill has stood on the banks of the River Great Ouse for more than 1,000 years. The current building is 18th century and the National Trust has started its latest work to ensure it’s around for the foreseeable future.
As part of this work, the entire weatherboarding on the mill will be covered in scaffolding and repainted from top to bottom – work that takes place every five years. The team will also assess the roof and the general condition of the building, as well as making general repairs.
In order to carry out the work, scaffolding will be erected by an expert team, which will then use a traditional tar based material to coat the weatherboard cladding as well as redecorating the windows. The conservation work will be carried out over the next few weeks.
