HOMES were evacuated in the early hours of Wednesday morning (October 10) after a fire broke out at a garage in Graveley.
Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to a fire at Milestone Motor Company in Manor Farm, Papworth Road, at about 3.30am.
The fire was in a garage that is used as a car maintenance workshop. It contained about 15 cars and several oxy acetylene cylinders.
The fire service said: “Due to the cylinders involved, the fire service put a 200 metre corden in place and police alerted residents within the corden, some of which were evacuated. Other residents who are less at risk were advised of the situation.”
Crews from Papworth, St Neots, Huntingdon, Gamlingay, St Ives and Ramsey, as well as a water carrier from Yaxley were called to tackle the fire and, once it was under control, were in the process of cooling the cylinders.
