Animal-lovers and charity staff enjoyed a night of glitz and glamour when they came together to celebrate 90 years of Wood Green, The Animals Charity.

The charity’s birthday Gala Dinner took place at Wood Green’s Godmanchester headquarters on November 13, sporting a 1920s theme in keeping with the charity’s opening in 1924 and raised £17,605.

Guests were treated to all things 1920s, from traditional champagne cocktails and Charleston demonstrations to a swing band.

The evening was hosted by soap and Strictly Come Dancing star Ali Bastian, with help from her cockerpoo dog Molly, and featured a surprise appearance from BBC Radio 2 newsreader and self-confessed “crazy cat-lady” Justine Greene.

Wood Green CEO Clive Byles said: “Our 90th birthday Gala Dinner was a fantastic evening – it was all about recognising the massive contributions made day-in-day-out by all our hard working staff, volunteers and supporters, many of whom were there on the night and dug deep into their pockets once again to help Wood Green.”
