Hinchingbrooke Hospital has received the highest possible accreditation for its urogynaecology department.

The Huntingdon hospital was awarded the mark by the British Society of British Society of Urogynaecology for improving care for patients suffering from prolapse, incontinence or bladder problems.

Praise was given to the Urogynaecology team for using treatments such as keyhole surgery to shorten time in hospital.

The hospital is only one of nine in England, and the first in East Anglia, to have met the standards needed for the accreditation.

Dr Helen Johnson, lead urogynaecologist, said: “This award puts us in the top 10 hospitals in England for clinical quality and patient experience, and I am hugely proud of our team for making this possible.”

Hinchingbrooke has also been short-listed for its quality care in the CHKS Best Hospital Awards. The winner, which will be judged on 12 criteria including length of stay and rate of emergency re-admissions, will be announced on May 13.

The hospital has also been praised by doctors in Bedfordshire in a review of the county’s services. It was highlighted for having short waiting times for hip and knee replacements and A&E, being one of only two hospitals in the area to meet all CQC standards and having the lowest risk in the area for patient harm.

Hinchingbrooke CEO Dr Hisham Abdel-Rahman said: “It makes a huge difference when fellow doctors and independent groups praise the enormous transformation we have seen in the last two years.

“I am delighted that the huge improvements we are making to patient care have been recognised, and I would like to thank our team for their enormous hard work.”
