Two Hilton women braved the rain, cold and wind at the Great Eastern Run to raise about £1,300 for a St Ives Acorn Cancer Support Group.

Patricia Cockwill, 62, of Westbrook Close, and Val Zarno, 63, of Wilderness, walked the half-marathon route in Peterborough for Acorn, a
charity which helps people suffering with cancer or other diseases, as well as their carers.

Mrs Cockwill told The Hunts Post: "We did it despite the dreadful weather. We finished in three hours and 22 minutes which is faster than we had managed previously, and we managed to get it in before the roads were reopened.

"We didn't come last - there were about eight people behind us! It was good not to finish last, but not as important as raising money and awareness for Acorn."

Gavin Alemanno, 34, of High Street, Ramsey, who three years ago was left unable to walk and talk after a brain tumour, completed the course in two hours 10 minutes and raised £705 for The Brain Tumour Charity.
