Abbey College, Ramsey, is celebrating after being awarded the basic skills quality mark, which recognises continuous improvement in literacy and numeracy.

The mark provides a framework for self-evaluation and improvement of the basic skills of all students, no matter their ability.

This includes challenging all students, from those whose attainment is lower than would be expected from someone of their age to the most able students.

In order to achieve the award, schools has to prove there is a commitment to improving basic skills and that the performance of learners in basic skills is improving.

Andy Christoforou, head teacher at Abbey College, said: “I am very proud of the efforts of our staff and of our united drive to provide an excellent education and the best opportunities for the children in our community.”
