The new bird viewing fence overlooks Roman Lakes and was created by students from the Spring Common Academy, all of whom have special needs. The students, supported by their teachers and volunteers from the Wildlife Trust, designed and positioned the viewing fence, giving easy access for those in wheelchairs and mobility scooters. The reserve has four lakes which are interspersed with grassland and hedgerows, which provide habitats for myriad bird species. Councillor Peter Morgan, mayor of Godmanchester, helped to reveal the new fence. He said: This is a great example of the community working together and Im delighted to be here today to meet the students and see their work. Wildlife Trust volunteer Ian Langley, who helped the students organise the event, said: We wanted a simple ceremony to celebrate the students achievements, theyve worked so hard here taking down a hedge to construct the viewing area.
