Work will now begin on the long-awaited Godmanchester Bridge Academy, which will be constructed by Cambridge-based contractor, Kier. The 420-place primary school and 52 place pre-school is due to be completed in autumn 2017. Guests, including the mayor of Godmanchester, Peter Morgan, and town councillors, attended the ceremony and also cut a celebration cake. Godmanchester Bridge Academy welcomed its first students in September 2016 at a temporary premises in sister-school, Godmanchester Community Academy. It will be run by Godmanchester Community Education Trust and procured by Cambridgeshire County Council. Set within environmentally sympathetic grounds, the school will contain purpose-built classrooms incorporating modern technology; a multi-purpose school hall; a library and activity space; a multi-use sports pitch, two hard play courts and soft play areas; a food technology classroom and a breakfast club area.
