GREEN POWER: Businesses can save money by installing renewable energy sources

SMALL businesses in Huntingdonshire will soon be able to cut their fuel bills by adding energy efficiency measures to their buildings...and get grants of up to �2,000 to pay for it.

Reducing the amount of energy a business uses is one of the easiest and most effective ways to save money and help the environment.

Businesses currently produce about half of the UK's carbon emissions, which means there is plenty of scope to make large reductions and for a business to improve its green credentials.

And more help will soon be on offer for Huntingdonshire businesses who sign an Environmental Pledge to improve their environmental performance.

The pledge consists of a range of actions which can help reduce greenhouse emissions, raise awareness of environmental issues and help business adapt to the impact of climate change.

Any small to medium size businesses signing the pledge will be able to apply for the environmental grant.

The money will be awarded on a business's potential to reduce energy use and carbon emissions.

Councillor Terry Rogers, executive councillor for finance and environment at Huntingdonshire District Council, said: "Reducing the amount of energy we use is possibly the greatest environmental challenge we face.

"This scheme will help businesses to make structural improvements to their properties to improve efficiency.

"We will also be encouraging the installation of renewable energy sources which occur naturally in the environment, release no greenhouse gases and therefore don't contribute to climate change."

Businesses can take the first step towards recognising the links between their operations and the changing environment by completing and signing the Environmental Pledge.
