GODMANCHESTER Community Primary School’s first three millionaires showed off the rewards of all their hard work on Monday.
But Year 6 pupils Annie, Dawid and Eleanor were not celebrating a cool million in the bank – but in their books.
The three have become the first pupils at the school to read one million words since September, as measured by the school’s online counter.
They got a taste of the high life on Monday when a BMW Z4 – their luxury of choice if they were cash millionaires – visited their school.
The car, supplied Elms BMW garage in Cambridge, came complete with personalised number plates for each of the three millionaires to keep.
Since the start of the year, pupils at the school have been keeping track of their reading progress using a computer program which counts the number of words read each day. After finishing a book, they answer questions on the book to ensure they have understood it, and a success message is sent to their parents via e-mail.

Headteacher Philip Ellington congratulated Annie, Dawid and Eleanor on their first million.
He added: “Reading is the most basic skill and the most important skill we teach. We are very proud of our first millionaires, and three more pupils have passed a million since. We look forward to celebrating many more before the end of the year.”
