A Godmanchester pub, closed since February, is set to reopen next month under new owners. Renovation work has begun on the Black Bull, in Post Street, with an opening date lined up for mid-October.

The pub has been bought by Illustrious Pub Company owner Paul Beer, who also runs three other pubs in Cambridgeshire - the Eaton Oak in St Neots, the George and Dragon at Elsworth and The Rose in Stapleford.

Mr Beer said: “The layout is going to be similar to before as you can't do a lot to that, but it will be lighter and there are going to be wooden floors as we've ripped up the carpets.

“We have kept the open fires as that will be nice when winter comes and we have just made more of it.”

He said the premises will have two defined dining areas which will serve food similar to his other pubs.

The Black Bull has been closed since February 24 after the last tenants ended their short-term contract with the previous owner, Entreprise Inns.

Mr Beer said: “It will be exciting to have the pub open again.”
