The Black Bull, in Post Street, was closed on Monday morning and a note put in the window saying the pub would be undergoing refurbishment work.

A spokesman for pub owner Enterprise Inns said the tenant, which hired a manager, told the owner they wanted to end their short-term lease agreement. She added the pub would be given a significant revamp and, as plans were currently being drawn up, it was not known when the Black Bull would reopen.

The spokesman said: “We are finalising plans for an extensive refurbishment of the Black Bull which will help it reach its maximum potential as a fantastic all-round pub for local residents. The Black Bull has now closed in readiness for works to commence, and we are already in discussions with interested parties who are keen to drive the business forward once the refurbishment has been completed.”

Enterprise said it would appoint a new landlord to move into the pub on a long-term contract once it had reopened.

Allan’s Promotions has had to move its Phoenix Calling event, this Friday night, to the Godmanchester Comrades Club. Doors open 7.15pm.
