Godmanchester’s mayor and mayoress set off on the first stage of a walk to the source of the River Great Ouse last Saturday (August 2).

David Underwood and his wife, Wendy, trekked along the river from Godmanchester to St Neots on the first stage of the charity walk. The couple will cover a distance of 90 miles in five stages, arriving in Syresham in Northamptonshire on September 11.

Cllr Underwood said: “We decided to do something a little bit different. If people want to donate, they can buy a charity bond which is either bronze, silver or gold to help the mayor’s charities.” Money raised from the sponsored walk will go towards The Hunts Society for the Blind, scouting and guiding groups in Godmanchester and Acorn Cancer Support Group. Bonds are available from the town hall, with donations between £5 and £20.

The next stage is planned for August 11. To find out more email mayors.charities@gmccouncil.com.
