Godmanchester Town Cricket Club has been given a boost by a Huntingdon house builder after securing a three-year sponsorship deal.

The funding from Bellway Eastern Counties has enabled the club to renew its net facilities, invest in essential ground equipment, and provide players of all ages with subsidised clothing.

Established over 150 years ago, the club plays its home games at The Parks, off Fox Grove, and boasts three senior teams as well as a host of junior sides across various age groups.

Chairman of Godmanchester Town Cricket Club, James Blatch, said: “We are delighted to partner with Bellway over the next three years.

“The investment will contribute to the overall objective of the club to be the first choice for young cricketers and the home of highly competitive senior teams.

“The global pandemic provided us with unforeseeable challenges, particularly financial, and we are grateful for Bellway’s investment at this critical time for voluntary organisations such as ours.

“Sponsorship is an important part of the club’s finances and with Bellway’s help, we have been able to make important improvements to our facilities.”

Rachael Gatehouse, Sales Manager for Bellway Eastern Counties, said: “As a responsible housebuilder, it is important to us that we form meaningful links in the communities that we build in.

“Godmanchester Town is a historic cricket club which continues to play an important role in the life of the town more than 150 years after it was founded.

“We are very pleased to provide long-term support to the club and wish it all the best in the current season.”
