Derek Giles is celebrating this morning after winning back his seat on St Neots Town Council.
Cllr Giles (Putting Eaton Ford First) stood against David Harty (Conservative) in a by-election for the Eaton Ford ward of St Neots and managed to gain two thirds of the vote.
The by-election was called in June after it was discovered that Mr Harty had not signed his Acceptance of Office papers after winning a seat on St Neots Town Council in the May election.
Cllr Giles said he was “absolutely delighted and looking forward to serving the people of Eaton Ford,”
He said he was disappointed with the low turnout but felt he had put in a lot of hard work in the run-up to the by-election.
“It was a low turnout, but I think this was a protest vote against the Conservatives as traditionally this is a strong Conservative area. I did a lot of door-knocking prior to the election and I feel all the hard work has paid off.”
The results were:
Derek Giles 696.
David Harty 288.
