On Saturday, the Royal Anglian Regiment and 423rd Air Base Group of the United States Air Force were given the scrolls during a presentation ceremony, followed by a freedom parade and salute. Afterwards, at Regatta Meadow, there was entertainment including a military flypast, parade and a display from pilot Mark Jefferies. There was also a funfair, music, dog display team, a charity petanque match as well as military vehicles on show, stalls, performances from dance groups, a balloon race, archery and exhibitions. The mayor, Councillor Andrew Hansard, said: The whole day was absolutely fabulous. The Freedom of the Town ceremony brought people out and I havent seen that many people in town for a long time. I have had nothing but compliments. Many, many charity stalls raised quite a lot of money. Our American friends enjoyed the day. Last weekend was their Independence Day but every one of them volunteered to be there, which was great. The veterans enjoyed the day and we have a lot of good ideas for next year.More pictures are available to view online at www.huntspost.co.uk.
