HUNDREDS of people across Huntingdonshire dressed in body armour, or as bears and birds, as they braved the cold Sunday morning to run for Sport Relief.

Runners completed one, three or six miles to raise money for vulnerable children worldwide. Gary Tierney, of Ramsey Heights, member of the Britannia re-enactment group, completed the three mile course in Ramsey in full Roman body amrour to raise more than �350.

Students at St Ivo raised more than �1,250 by holding a non-uniform day and with Years 7, 8 and 9 running a mile in PE lessons.

Priory Junior School tried to break the four-minute mile, with each child running 60 metres. Pupils in class D6 were closest running the mile just under six minutes as the rest of the school completed 20 miles in two hours and 13 minutes.

Runs took place all over Huntingdonshire including Ramsey, Little Paxton, Hinchingbrooke Park, Old Hurst, and Bluntisham.

Children at Silks Farm Nursery School, in Somersham, took penalties at Academy Sports Development coach Chris and held fancy dress days and a sponsored dance-off competition to raise more than �300 for Sport Relief last Thursday and Friday.

Even Cambridgeshire police took time off chasing criminals last Friday (March 23) to chase after each other to run 101 miles to promote the new number for non-emergency calls as the 0345 is switched off on Sunday (April 1).
