Molesworth turned into a scene of Wacky Races on Saturday as nearby villages raced box carts down the High Street.

The village hosted the first box cart races as it joined forces with Brington, Bythorn, Catworth, Keyston, Leighton Bromswold and Old Weston to hold a joint summer fete.

Stalls selling various items from refreshments to gifts lined the road as villagers battled it out to win the star piece of the event.

The race was won by Bythorn with Brington’s A and B carts coming second and third.

Rosy Foulds, of High Street, Molesworth, who set up the event, told The Hunts Post: “It was amazing.

“The carts were brilliant, there was everything from welding bikes together to a cart in the shape of a pig that also had a holder for a mobile phone to measure how fast they were going – their fastest was 22mph.”

She added: “The event raised more than £500 for the Church’s Benefit Fund, which is a pot of money that is for village halls and events like this in all of the villages.

“We also raised £86 for St Leonards Pre-school in Brington.”
