Families filled the streets in the centre of St Ives on Sunday, from the moment the Christmas market and lights switch-on event began.

There was a continental market, stalls selling handmade gifts, Father Christmas’s grotto, entertainment from choirs including the Youth Theatre and the Angels of Kaos, and to round off the day there was a fireworks display.

“We were delighted at the turn out which must have been one of the best for a long time as there was so much for all to see and do,” said Angie Dickinson, chairman of St Ives Town Initiative.

“We were overwhelmed by the number of families that attended and the atmosphere was absolutely brilliant. It was so lovely to see the town busy throughout the day and to know that all the hard work paid off.”

Now the organisers, who work closely with St Ives Town Council’s Christmas Lights Committee, are already planning next year’s event.
