The café, in Chequers Court, closed its doors for the final time on July 16.

A poster placed in the window of the branch reads: “We’re sorry this store is now closed. We want to thank you for your loyalty and visits over the years.

“We are looking forward to welcoming you again soon in a new store in Huntingdon.”

Despite hinting in the notice that the multi-national chain would be moving to a new premises in the town, a spokesman for the company couldn’t confirm whether it did in fact have plans to re-open.

The spokesman added: “Like many other retailers, and as part of the normal course of our business over the year, we regularly review our stores to ensure they’re contributing to a strong business performance.

“We closed our store in Huntingdon on July 16, and will continue to look at new opportunities in the area.”

Following the closure, residents took to social media to share their disappointment. One Facebook user posted: “Gutted - I love Starbucks and I think it’s a lovely atmosphere in there.”

Another said: “Nice to grab a drink in there while walking around. I think it’s a shame we’re losing it. Staff always friendly.”

The closure comes just a few months after the chain opened up a drive thru outlet at Brampton Hut services. The opening of the branch, operated by franchise partner 23.5 Degrees Limited, created 25 new jobs.

Huntingdon, however, is set to welcome two new coffee stores to the town with Caffe Nero confirmed for the Chequers Court development, and Costa announcing that it intends to open a smaller branch within clothing and home retailer Next.
