Ramsey Rural Museum hosted its ninth Model Railway Day on Sunday (August 9) with hundreds of visitors coming to check out the displays. Fenland Light Railway, based in Mereside Drive, Ramsey, were also there with their miniature narrow-gauge steam train, which is designed for people to ride on.

FLR committee member Chris Diment said: “People seemed to be enjoying the day and our train was popular. Children love seeing the little steam engine, and they can even blow the whistle. The dads love it too, and it brings back memories for some of the grandads.”

Best layout (as the experts call their exacting working models) of the day was a narrow-gauge train called Nibley Knoll from husband-and-wife team Graham and Caroline Watling who travelled from Norwich.

As well as the railway exhibits, which included a sit-on train, visitors were able to view the other attractions at the museum, which is housed in renovated 17th-century farm buildings.

As a charitable trust the museum – which has machinery, implements, displays, buildings and vehicles spanning 200 years of rural life – is entirely run by volunteers and relies on events like this to boost its coffers.
