Friends of a young man who died in a car crash near St Neots have organised a competition for the sport he “lived and loved” in his memory.
The Ryan Stringer Memorial Shield darts tournament will be held at the RAFA Club, in Huntingdon Street, on May 10, to celebrate Ryan’s life.
The 21-year-old, of Vicarage Walk, Great Staughton, was killed in an accident on the Great Staughton Road between the village and Pertenhall, when his car crashed into a ditch on March 13. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Matt Truman, 32, of Whitehall Walk, St Neots, said: “I knew Ryan from about six or seven years ago when we used to play in the Kimbolton and District Darts League for The Crown, in Little Staughton.
“We also used to play in the Eynesbury and District Darts League and played for different teams for the Conservative Club.
“Ryan also used to play for Bedfordshire County Youth and his girlfriend is a Women’s England International darts player, so you could say he lived and loved darts.
“I’ve been out of darts for a couple of years due to a shoulder injury but I’m on the comeback trail.
“As Ryan loved darts, I thought it would be a fitting tribute to have a darts competition in his memory.”
Mr Truman thanked Karen Morizzo, of Endersby Awards, which has donated the trophies for the competition.
INFORMATION: Doors open at 5pm, for a 5.30pm start. Entry costs £5 a person, with half of the money going towards the prize fund and half to Ryan’s parents’ charity of choice.
