A judgement released yesterday (Monday) found in favour of Helen Kings claim for unfair dismissal following the conclusion of an employment tribunal at Huntingdon Law Courts in July last year. The town council stressed that the employment tribunal had rejected Mrs Kings arguments that she was dismissed as a result of a disability or because she was a whistle-blower. The full judgement is not yet in the public domain and a decision regarding compensation will be made at a remedy hearing. The date for this has not yet been confirmed. In a statement, St Neots Town Council said: The council is disappointed by the finding of an employment tribunal that it acted unfairly in dismissing Mrs Helen King. The council notes that the employment tribunal found that the council genuinely believed that Mrs King had committed acts of misconduct. The tribunals decision was based on technical defects in the process the council followed. The council has at every stage of this matter acted in accordance with legal advice. At this stage, it is seeking further advice on how best to respond to the employment tribunals judgment. Mrs King held the position until December 2011 and was sacked after accusations of gross misconduct. She had appealed against her dismissal in early 2012, but following two hearings by the councils appeal committee, the decision was upheld.
