A former police station in Ramsey has been sold and it is likely the site will be used for residential development.

Acting on behalf of the office of the police and crime commissioner for Cambridgeshire, agents Barker Storey Matthews confirmed the sale of the building to the Allgood Group.

The half-acre site and two-storey building, in Blenheim Road, was sold as part of the police commissioner’s planned property disposals programme.

According to Barker Storey Matthews, the new owner, the Allgood Group, is looking to develop the site for residential use with a scheme appropriate to its prominent location and proximity to Ramsey town centre.

Paul Allgood, owner and managing partner of the Allgood Group, said: “We are very excited at the opportunity offered by the former police station in Ramsey. It provides a unique opportunity to develop a significant site close to the town centre, which will provide additional local homes.”

Police and crime commissioner, Jason Ablewhite, added: “The sale of Ramsey police station is part of an ongoing review of the police estate across the county. The current police estate is worth about £35 million and costs £4 million to run, so selling under-used and un-needed buildings allows money to be used to maintain officer numbers which I know is what people want.

“The sale will not affect local policing and, following my discussions with the fire service, officers will maintain a local presence through the Ramsey fire station, another example of how the police and fire service continue to work together.”

Stephen Power, director at Barker Storey Matthews, who oversaw the sale on behalf of the police commissioner’s office, said: “This unusual property was marketed on a leasehold and freehold basis to maximise the opportunity to potential tenants or purchasers, alike.

“Due to the high level of interest, the site was offered for sale by tender, with open offers invited. We can confirm several offers were received.”
