Sally Smith, who was dismissed from Papworth Hospital in 2014 and placed on a conditions of practice order by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), failed to include details of her dismissal and subsequent order from the hospital whilst applying for a job at a care home. An NMC hearing found that Mrs Smith worked for Hunters Healthcare Ltd from August 2015 and February 2016 as a nurse. In obtaining that employment, it is alleged that you dishonestly failed to declare any restrictions or conditions on your practice either in your written application or at your interview, the report of the hearing on April 24 stated. In December 2015, Mrs Smith also applied for two positions with the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, and told bosses that she was dismissed from Papworth because of a medical condition. The hearing report noted that Mrs Smith had been recruited as an ear, nose, and throat nurse at Addenbrookes Hospital, in Cambridge, where she worked for three months. At your three month employment review, you disclosed to your line manager, Ms 1, that you were subject to a conditions of practice order. Initial enquires were carried out by the employer to confirm that such an order was in place, the report stated. Mrs Smith, who was present at the hearing, said that she had lied about her conditions of practice because she believed she would otherwise not secure a job. The panel determined that Mrs Smith had, in the past, acted so as to put patients at unwarranted risk of harm, brought the nursing profession into disrepute. Mrs Smith has 28 days to appeal the decision before being struck off.
