A GUITARIST who lined up on bass alongside Paul Weller in The Jam is set to headline a two-day festival in Huntingdon this month.

Bruce Foxton and his band From the Jam will top the bill on the opening night of the Recordworld Music Festival.

Being held for the first time, the event will be staged in the grounds of the Lord Protector pub, off Mayfield Road and will also feature a funfair and stalls.

From The Jam formed in 2006 and played a sell-out UK tour the following year. They have since performed in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, as well as gigs in Europe.

Foxton, drummer Mark Brzezicki, who was in Big Country and has played with Roger Daltrey, Peter Townshend and Midge Ure, and vocalist Russell Hastings, are breaking off from their All Mod Cons tour, which started this week (Sept 11), for the Huntingdon festival.

They are due to play the first day, Friday, September 27, and will follow Hull-based act Skatones, Huntingdon’s own Hopes & Fears and DJ Pete Maisey.

The Saturday will see Scooted n Booted, The Simpletone from Little Paxton, Eddie Manson and the Disciples from Buckden, and The Mojo Slide take to the stage. The Sex Pistols Experience, who have been impersonating the Pistols since 2001, will finish off proceedings.

Organiser Karl Brockett, manager of vinyl store RecordWorld, in St Mary’s Street, Huntingdon, said the festival, which will also raise funds for the Woodlands Cancer centre extension appeal, had been 14 months in the planning.

He added: “Come and see national and local bands play at a cheap price and donate to a great local charity.”

The festival will open at 2pm and tickets are £20 per day. Only people who buy tickets for either the Friday or the Saturday will be entitled to entry to a free event on Sunday, billed as a DJ Day, with acts including Rhodesy, DJ Dave Hughes+Kenny B and DJ Deleriuos.
