A business consortium has purchased premises in Huntingdon’s High Street that was formerly home to a gift shop.
The unnamed Luton-based investment company has purchased the building which houses the Parsley Pot, which closed its doors last month.
A spokesman for the company said: “Whilst many town centres in the UK are presently struggling, we see Huntingdon as a town where retail demand is likely to be maintained in the longer term.
“The Huntingdonshire area is growing rapidly, and with the Chequers Court development now under way, we see the town growing in strength and this is why we have invested in this retail opportunity.”
The plans for building, at 40 High Street, will include a re-development of the first floor, which is currently a storage area, to create a second flat similar to the existing flat on the second floor.
The retail unit will also be remodelled to include a rear storage area. It is not yet known which business will rent the premises.
The sale was assisted by commercial agents Barford+Co following instructions by the shop’s previous owner.
Director Phil Halmshaw said: “The property is in a decent High Street position next to Costa Coffee and the new owners have seen the potential for the building to be remodelled and for the shop to operate in a slightly different way.
“It is anticipated that a new tenant will be found once the works have been completed.”
