A fly-tipper has been ordered to do 160 hours of unpaid work after being prosecuted by Huntingdonshire District Council.

Matthew Hockey, of no fixed abode, was charged with illegally dumping waste, failing to produce authority to transport waste, transporting waste without a licence and failing to produce waste transfer notes.

The 28-year-old admitted the offences at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (May 8).

The court heard that on August 1 last year, Hockey had been paid to take away the rubbish from a property in Gladstone Street, Peterborough, and that it was later found in the Gated Road, Elton.

As well as a 12-month community order, including the 160 hours of unpaid work, he was told to pay £250 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

HDC’s head of operations, Eric Kendall, said: “Fly-tipping is unsightly, has a detrimental impact on the environment and is very costly to remove.

“This council takes fly-tipping very seriously, and will, wherever possible, instigate legal action against anyone who participates in such activities.”
