A crew and a water carrier from Ramsey fire station were called at about 8.15am to a fire in the open in Longholme Road. A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: Approximately 500 tones of wood chippings and waste wood material was smouldering and alight. Firefighters used hose reels to contain the fire and stop it from spreading and a digging machine was used to spread the material out to extinguish it quicker. The fire is being allowed to burn out in a controlled environment. Crews returned to their station by 12.15pm and regular inspections will be made to the site.
