A St Neots man has been fined after being found guilty of causing a noise nuisance to a neighbour.

Following an investigation by Huntingdonshire District Council’s environmental health team, Peterborough Magistrates Court heard that, in the early hours of March 25 and 29, Arthur Brown, 53, of Sandfields Road, caused unnecessary distress and sleep disturbance to a neighbour.

The court heard that Brown repeatedly banged upon a wall without good reason, in breach of a noise abatement notice previously served by the district council.

Brown, who was found guilty in his absence, was fined £300 and ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge of a further £200.

Councillor Steve Criswell, executive member for community resilience, said: “Persistent noise nuisance can have a significant detrimental impact upon the health and wellbeing of people living nearby. Prosecutions like this send out the message that the council takes complaints of noise disturbance very seriously and will not tolerate unacceptable behaviour.

“We are committed to working with our communities to ensure that residents can enjoy their homes without fear of persistent disturbance. If any resident of Huntingdonshire is affected by noisy neighbours, I would urge them to contact the council so that we can help maintain the health and vitality of our communities.”
