The King William public house in Fenstanton has won first place in the ‘giant charity pub quiz’ competition, put on by The Rotary Club of St Ives.
The bi-annual event sees pubs across Cambridgeshire battle it out to raise money for their chosen charities, and this year’s winners will be donating their £250 prize cheque to the Fenstanton Christmas Lights fund.
The King William, which scored 170 points, also won the Wellington Wise Quizmaster Cup and a dozen bottles of wine sponsored by Wellington Wise Estate Agents.
In second place, with 168 points, was Lakeside Lodge Golf Club in Pidley who won £125 for charities Kidney Cancer Research and Medical Detection Dogs.
Some 40 pubs took part in this year’s event on March 24, and the top ten winners all received cheques for their charities.
Rotary organiser, Adrian Acton, said: “We are particularly delighted at the continuing high number of teams who competed in the fourteenth holding of this event and I would like to thank them and our sponsors, Wellington Wise Estate Agents, for their valuable support.
“We would also very much like to thank our fellow Rotary Clubs of Huntingdon Cromwell, Huntingdon, Rushden Chichele, Ramsey and the St Ives Inner Wheel for all their help on the night.”
