THE lorry fire which caused misery for Huntingdonshire motorists yesterday is still causing delays – as drivers slow down to look at the feather-strewn roadside.
Delays were reported on the westbound carriageway, with slow-moving traffic stretching back several miles from the site of Wednesday’s accident near Hemingford Grey.
When the lorry caught fire at around 6am yesterday, it shed its load of feathers, which were blown across both lanes of the A14 and surrounding fields, covering bushes and trees in the white duck down.
It took 27 firefighters from five crews to put out the fire, flames from which reached 20 feet, according to eyewitnesses. The westbound carriageway of the A14 was closed for over eight hours, causing delays for thousands as motorists searched for other routes.
