A St Neots councillor has raised safety concerns about new proposals that will prevent people parking outside homes close to Crosshall Primary School.

Cambridgeshire County Council is considering installing “no waiting” restrictions on several roads adjacent to the Eaton Ford school, which become congested at peak (school run) times.

The suggestion for parking restrictions was put forward by the school under the Local Highways Improvement Bid scheme, which allows communities to have an input on highway matters, and will apply to Masefield Avenue, Byron Place, Keats Court, Great North Road and the north and south access roads to Crosshall School.

Eaton Ford councillor, Graham Welton, says the scheme, believed to be costing in the region of £10,000, will transfer the problem elsewhere and cause more congestion, particularly along the Great North Road.

Cllr Welton has delivered hundreds of leaflets to homes in the area, warning people about the potential dangers that could arise when parents are forced to look for alternative parking.

“It is clear that the school and the county council’s project team have proposed this scheme with no thought whatsoever to the wider impact,” said Cllr Welton.

“Let’s hope common sense prevails and this scheme is cancelled and a more realistic, encompassing proposal is put forward.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire County Council said: “We are still at the consultation stage and all the issues will be considered in the next few weeks.”

The spokesman said CCC had not received any formal objections from St Neots town, district or county councillors.

Crosshall school were contacted, but decline to comment.
