Amy Houghton was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare for of cancer, in February.

The youngster, who lives in Caxton, has already had nine rounds of chemotherapy and is due to have an operation to have her right femur and part of her hip removed and replaced with titanium metal at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.

However, before then, her family are determined to raise enough money to fulfil her dream of owning a puppy.

Lisa is hosting a fundraising event to try and help raise the money for the puppy on Saturday at Morrisons supermarket, in St Ives, from 10am.

Amy’s mum, Lisa Houghton said: “Throughout Amy’s treatment she has never cried or moaned about what is happening and all she has ever asked for is a puppy.

“She hasn’t been able to go to school either due to her having so much treatment, so I would love to just make this wish come true for her.

“She has been having treatment nearly every other week at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, and to make her happy would be amazing.”

Amy has said she would like a pet pug since she started treatment, and has already picked out the name for it.

Lisa said: “She has already decided that she wants to call it Mimi. I’m really hoping as many people can come down and support her on Saturday. There is going to be a lot of fun things to do and hopefully we can raise the money for Amy.”

Ewing sarcoma is a rare form of cancer which occurs in children. The cancer mainly affects children and young people and it affects the bones or tissue around the bones.

Lisa is hoping that she will be able to have Amy’s puppy ready for when is discharged following her operation, which is due to take place on Monday at the hospital in London.
