Families turned out in their thousands to enjoy everything from donkey racing to live music at Eltisley Donkey Derby and Village Fete.
The main event of the village’s traditional annual feast week was attended by about 2,000 people on Saturday (July 12), where children rode the donkeys and adults drove them in a trap to win prizes including a rosette, wine or a box of chocolates.
Other attractions included an aerobatic air display from pilot Mark Jefferies, fete stalls, a market tent, First World War re-enactments, a raffle and a whole ox roast. In the evening, there was live rock music.
On Sunday there was a concert organised by Eltisley History Society – which launched its book Remembering Eltisley’s Fallen, 1914-1918 at the fete – in St Pandionia and St John the Baptist Church to commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War.
Jim Booth, a member of the organising committee, said: “Everyone that came said they had a fantastic time. It was bigger and better than last year and raised money for the community.”
