HUNTINGDON’S oldest pub is back on the market after negotiations with a buyer fell through.
The Falcon Hotel in Market Hill has been closed since 2008 but last month agents Fleurets said that the pub had been sold subject to contract.
However, it’s back to stage one as this week Fleurets said that the Grade II-listed pub, which can trace its history back to 1572, was up for sale once again. The news will come as a disappointment to more than 600 campaigners who joined the “Save The Falcon” Facebook page in 2011.
It is believed that the deal was called off after a survey revealed the huge potential cost of reviving the pub.
Mayor of Huntingdon Councillor Bill Hensley said: “When they had the survey done, they found £300,000 of work needed doing. It needs to be supported by the district council or national heritage funding because it’s a listed building. It needs to be a pub again.”
