TWO football fanatics in Eynesbury have been truly bitten by the World Cup bug decorating their small garden with more than 80 England flags.

James Clark and neighbour Peter Dilmot spent half an hour putting up St George’s crosses of every size in their garden in Broad Walk.

Mr Clark, 64, said: “We’ve got great community spirit here and we just wanted to show our support for the England team. Hopefully people will see the flags and smile and their spirits will be lifted. It’s a good excuse to feel good what with all the doom and gloom in this country.”

Even if England lose against the USA in the first game of the tournament on Saturday (June 12) or fail to get out of the group stage, the neighbours intend to keep the flags flying.

Mr Clark, who is entertainment chairman of the Eynesbury Village Association (EVA), said: “We will keep them up for the duration as it makes the garden look very colourful.

“The flags are from the Eynesbury St George’s Day celebrations so we’re recycling them,” he added.

But the big question is...can England bring the cup home?

Mr Clark’s view was: “I’m a bit worried about the amount of injured players they’re taking but I think they have as good a chance as any. I think Spain will win and would love to see an England versus Spain final. Come on England!”
