Thieves stole an excavator from a building site in Sawtry in the early hours of Saturday (September 21).
The offenders broke into the derelict Travelodge site just off the A1 at 5.10am
They moved the Caterpillar 311CU vehicle onto a trailer and made off along the motorway.
PC Andy Minns said: “This was a brazen theft of a large vehicle. I would urge anyone who saw the JCB being transported along the A1 at around the time of this incident to call police.”
