An investigation has been launched after an elderly woman was assaulted by a burglar in her home in Fenstanton yesterday evening (Sunday).
According to Cambridgeshire police, the victim, who is in her 60s, had gone to bed when she heard her dogs whimpering downstairs at about 11pm.
As she got to the bottom of the stairs a man walked out of her lounge, assaulted her and made off from the house, in Peartree Close.
The woman was shocked and shaken but not injured. Nothing is believed to have been stolen.
It is believed the burglar entered the house through an unlocked door.
The burglar has been described by police as six foot tall, white, and wearing a black bomber jacket, blue jeans and red plastic-looking sports shoes.
Anyone with information should contact Det Sgt Sarah Sleaford on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
