On-call firefighters, operational managers and senior staff manned fire engines between 10am and 5pm as members from the Fire Brigades Union walked out in a national dispute over pensions. Six of the eight calls received by Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service were false alarms, including one in Lammas Gardens, Huntingdon, at 11.51am. Firefighters extinguished a crane fire on the A47 at Guyhirn and gave a man first aid as well as putting out a barbecue fire in Cambridge. Deputy chief fire officer Chris Strickland said: Once again our resilience arrangements have been successful and all 999 calls were responded to. Again Id like to thank the public for being extra vigilant during the industrial action.
