The Great North Road post office will close for refurbishment next month with the promise of it returning with extended opening hours – including Sundays.

Post Offices Ltd is revamping thousands of its branches across the country and Eaton Socon’s turn will get underway on September 25 – it will close to customers the day before at 5.30pm.

The refit will take until October 8, when the branch will re-open at 1pm offering a seven-day service and an additional 39 hours of opening time.

The branch is to be fitted with two screened counters, which will be open Monday to Saturday 9am-5.30pm. Some post office services will also be available at the retail counter Monday to Saturday 6.30am-7.30pm and Sunday 6.30am-4.30pm.

Area manager Kevin Shepherd said: “We know how important post office services are to residents in St Neots and we are confident this vibrant modern post office at the heart of the community in Eaton Socon will be popular. The modernisation is part of a major Government investment programme enabling us to continue investing in the post office network and to map out a bold growth strategy to the end of the decade.”

Anyone who needs post office services during the re-fit is advised to use either the St Neots branch in the High Street or the Berkley Street Post Office in Eynesbury.
