Six members of the St Neots Dragon Boat team are attemping to raise money to allow them to go to the European Dragon Boat Championships.

Matthew Power, along with five other team mates, needs to raise funds so that the team can attend the championships, which will be held in Brandenburg, Germany.

The event, which will take place in August, will see teams from across Europe take part in different races.

Six members of the St Neots Dragon Boat team are hoping to raise the funds so they can attend the event and compete.

Erin Hall, Matthew Power, Rachael Elliott,Troy Cowdrey, Molly Power and Taylor Fernie are all hoping to secure their spot at the championships this summer.

Matthew, who will be racing with his daughter Molly, has said it is going to the first time that the club will have a father and daughter duo competing.

The club needs to raise £2,100 which will pay for kit, accommodation and travel, and they have been securing sponsorships and hosting charity events to secure the funding.

Matthew said: “We are trying really hard to raise the funds so the whole team can go to the championships.

“All of us have trained so hard to get to this point and are really looking forward to the championships.

“It’s a really exciting opportunity for all of us and we are really hoping that we can secure the money.

“It’s not everyday that you get the opportunity to go abroad and compete against other countries so we really want to try and raise the money.

“It is going to be a great experience being able to compete against in Europe and I just hope that we get to go.

“We have so far had sponsorships from Giggs and Co, Independent Drinks Supplies, The Rockery Centre, in Sandy, the Rotary Club of St Neots, St Marys and The Barley Mow pub.The juniors are also doing a car wash in the Barley Mow car park followed by a barbecue and disco to try and raise as much money as possible. It would be really great to see as many people as possible come along and enjoy the day.”

The car wash and barbecue will be held at the Barley Mow, in Eaton Ford, on July 21. INFO: If you would like to sponsor the team then visit: www.justgiving and search Dan Clarke.
