The girl was playing on the green outside her home in Peterborough with friends when the dog, a Staffordshire Terrier, bit her on both ankles on February 15.

Police obtained a warrant and tracked down the dog a few days later.

On June 5 the owner, a 19-year-old man from Peterborough, was found guilty of being in charge or allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place, injuring a person.

He was given a £250 fine, ordered to pay £100 compensation to the victim, £100 compensation to police kennels, £250 costs and £25 victim surcharge. Magistrates also ordered the destruction of the dog.
