MUSIC HIGH: A hiking Huntingdon DJ is aiming to squeeze an overnight trip up Snowdon between two DJ sets to raise money for Hinchingbrooke Hospital’s special care baby unit.
Martin Fossey hopes to finish his DJ set at the Golden Knight in Huntingdon at 2.30am on Saturday morning (June 4), drive to Wales, climb Snowdon, and be back in time for the start of his next booking at the pub at 8pm that night.
He will be joined by friends Simon and Carol Lucken and his partner Emma Burrows, who has three daughters who have been cared for at the unit.
“As a DJ, it’s quite awkward getting time off, so we thought we would try to do it overnight. We had the idea a couple of months ago when we went to Wales, but only on the day we were coming back so we didn’t have time,” said Martin, 39, of Sallowbush Road.
Running out of time could again be a problem for the four, with a five-hour journey each way and a five-hour hike up Snowdon’s Pyg trail and down the miners’ track.
“We’ve done absolutely no training but it’s not a particularly gruelling ascent – it’s a hike more than a climb.”
They have already raised £400 for the Dreamdrops charity, chosen by Emma because three of her five children have been treated at the special care baby unit.
Her daughter Charlotte, 14, weighed just 2lb 3oz when she was born at 28 weeks.
Emma, 36, said: “The care Charlotte received was absolutely brilliant, and she did better than they thought she would.
“Dreamdrops is the one charity that I give to, and I always said that if I raised money it would be to go towards SCBU.”
Daughters Nicole, 12, and Chloe, 10, also spent the early weeks of their lives in SCBU after being born six weeks prematurely.
Emma said: “We wanted to do this climb for ourselves, but also to raise money and give something back to the unit.”
