The swimming pool at One Leisure St Neots is set to close for refurbishment after being handed a grant for £300,000 from Huntingdonshire District Council.
The improvements will see a full refurbishment of the pool as well as a grant of £116,000 for a new synthetic sports pitch.
The site, which is set to close for 10 weeks, is the second of the One Lesiure sites to have improvements, after the district council recently invested £800,000 refurbishing the fitness suite at One Leisure Huntingdon, last month.
The date of the pool closure has not yet been confirmed by the council.
With environmental considerations in mind, up to £800,000 is also being invested in energy reduction measures across all One Leisure sites to minimise their environmental footprint.
As well as the investments, the council’s One Lesiure active lifestyles team has receieved £147,000 from external grants, activity fees, and commissioned activities which overall comprise 43 per cent of active lifestyles funding.
Councillor Daryl Brown, whose executive responsibilities include One Leisure, said: “Our council is rightly committed to the success and ambition of Huntingdonshire as a place and for its people.
“The provision of quality leisure opportunities across the district is critical in enabling residents to achieve healthy outcomes for their lives and also helping us to convince businesses to choose to invest here knowing there is a fit and able workforce.
“Together with the energies of a strong officer team, I have been delighted to be at the forefront of the modernisation of our One Leisure group, capturing opportunities for external funding and council investment.
“All this ensures our facilities stay relevant and offer an exciting range of activity choices, in accessible locations, that allow everyone to get fit, stay well or to recover and continue to make Huntingdonshire an attractive place to live and work.
“I encourage all our residents and employers to come and use our facilities. There is a variety of membership packages available and activities and equipment you may not expect.
“Come and join us at a One Leisure near you. I know you will be impressed.”
