Two parishes are to be grouped together after the dissolution of a parish meeting.

From May, Buckden Parish Council’s area of jurisdiction is to be enlarged to include Diddington.

The change has been instigated after Diddington Parish Meeting chairman Colin Humphrey and clerk Christopher Cole stood down with effect from December 31.

Attempts were made to maintain the meeting but no replacements for the roles could be found among the 55-strong electorate. As a result, Diddington approached Buckden to see if it would consider a grouping arrangement.

Having been agreed in principle, an order had to be made under the Local Government Act 1972 by Huntingdonshire District Council, which was duly carried out at Wednesday’s HDC full council.

The membership of Buckden Parish Council will remain at 15. Its next election is due to be held on May 22, from when the new arrangement will apply.
