There are delays on the A1 this morning (Tuesday) following a collision between a car and a lorry.

Police were called to a stretch of the Great North Road near Southoe shortly after 8am after a white Seat collided with a lorry, which is understood to be carrying scaffold poles.

The northbound carriageway is blocked and traffic is queuing back to the Little Paxton turn off.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area while recovery work takes place.
